Was there a point in your life where in your commitment to growth, you realized not all people around you celebrate it?

In this week’s episode of Marketing with Matt, my good friend Tyler and I dive into the real talk about personal and business growth and the price you have to pay.

Does Personal Growth Equal to Business Growth?

It’s no secret how online motivational videos and gurus link personal growth with business growth.

They say that when you make it a point to improve yourself–communication skills, mindset, physical well-being, etc.–it naturally translates to business growth.

Ever heard the make your bed mantra? It turns out that successful entrepreneur Alex Hormozi isn’t a big fan of it. (Could someone be changing his bed? That we don’t know.)

Although the interconnection between personal and business growth makes sense, this statement can’t be true for me, at least since there are things that I do differently.

Unlike my wife, who gets irritated when our place is messy, I feel very comfortable with the chaos. I could be working laser-focused even when there could be stuff burning around me.

Am I more productive if working in a less chaotic environment? Maybe. Does thriving in chaos means I’m not growing my business? I don’t think so.

The Real Cost of Growth

Here’s the reality: Change is the only constant thing in life. As you embark on your path to self and business growth, you will leave your old self to become a newer version of yourself.

But guess what? These people around you are invested in your current identity. And when they see multiple changes happening in you, they’d see it as if you’re challenging their identities.

Hence, not everyone around you celebrates your growth–personal or business. They see you as an outsider challenging the norms with which they are comfortable.

So every stage of growth has a cost, and that cost might include the pain of losing certain relationships. But it’s all part of a grand scheme–becoming the best version of yourself and making your dreams come to life.

But how do you deal with this kind of aching loss?
